Keeping Your Pool Healthy Starts with a Healthy Filter: Filter Repair Services by AZ Oasis Pools
Your pool filter is the silent hero of your backyard oasis. Working tirelessly behind the scenes, it traps dirt, debris, and contaminants, keeping your pool water sparkling clean and healthy. But just like any hardworking hero, sometimes your filter needs a little TLC. That’s where AZ Oasis Pools comes in!
At AZ Oasis Pools, we offer comprehensive pool filter repair services to keep your pool filtration system running smoothly. Our experienced technicians can diagnose any filter issue and provide the necessary repairs to get your pool back in tip-top shape.
Signs Your Pool Filter Needs Attention
Excellent water filtration is a cornerstone of proper pool maintenance. Over the past several years, we’ve observed changes in environmental conditions, including increased debris, dust, and higher winds.
Arizona summers also require your pool to have the best filtration possible, as the average water temperatures are much higher here than in other states, which contributes to algae growth. AZ Oasis Pools will assess your backyard and pool to provide a recommendation for the best filter for your situation.
Three filter types are used to filter pool water: Cartridge, Diatomaceous Earth (DE), and Sand (granular media).
Cartridge filters are the simplest and require almost no maintenance except to disassemble and spray clean the four cartridges approximately every 6 months. Due to the simple but efficient design, cartridge filters are energy and water-efficient and also capable of filtering out fine dirt (10 microns). They work wonderfully with variable-speed pumps because their particle removal efficiency improves at lower flow rates.
DE filters are the most complex of the filters but provide superior filtration (3 microns) compared to other filter types. The trade-off is that DE filters are more fragile and expensive to operate and maintain.
DE filters can need periodic backwashing to remain effective and should be disassembled and cleaned approximately every 4 months. There are cartridge DE filters that are wonderful at filtration and are less fragile but they still need to be disassembled 3 times per year, potentially with a backwash between cleanings.
Sand filters (granular media) are relatively simple and provide an alternative that does not require the filter body to be disassembled 2-3 times per year to clean the filter media. Unfortunately, sand has the least efficient filtration capacity (20+ microns) and is the least energy and water-efficient. We have found that the reduced filtration efficiency leads to higher chemical usage and a greater likelihood that a pool will struggle with algae. There are other granular media that can be used in sand filters to improve filtration efficiency.
A sand filter can need periodic refreshing or replacement. However, there is no reliable standard, as the biggest influence is pool use and surrounding vegetation. Refreshing the pool sand is relatively inexpensive, but sand replacement is labor-intensive and relatively expensive.
Here are some signs that your pool filter might need repair:
Your pool filter works hard to keep your water clean, but it’s important to recognize when it’s struggling. Here are the key warning signs that your pool filter might need professional repair or maintenance:
- Decreased Water Flow:
A slow trickle where there should be a strong flow is a red flag. This could indicate a clogged filter, a problem with the pump, or even an air leak in the system. - Cloudy Pool Water:
If your pool water isn’t sparkling clear, even after running the filter for a while, it’s a sign that your filter isn’t functioning properly. - Increased Backwashing Frequency:
Does your filter seem to need backwashing more often than usual? This could indicate a tear in the filter media or another issue preventing proper filtration. - Unusual Noises:
Your filter should run quietly. Grinding, banging, or other unusual noises are signs of trouble and should prompt you to call a pool service professional. - Clogged Filter:
Excessive debris in your filter can block water circulation and reduce filtration efficiency. Regular cleaning can prevent this, but persistent clogs may require professional attention. - Leaking Filter Housing:
A leaking filter housing not only wastes water but also reduces pressure, which can affect the performance of your entire filtration system. - Decreased Filtration Efficiency:
A damaged filter grid or worn-out filter media can prevent your filter from trapping dirt and debris effectively, leading to murky or algae-prone water.
Addressing these issues promptly can save you time, money, and frustration while keeping your pool water crystal clear and safe for swimming.
